Lowe’s Grove Middle School teacher Jamila Bowser has been named the national 2009 SECME Teacher of the Year. Each year, SECME, Inc. (formerly the Southeastern Consortium for Minorities in Engineering) recognizes outstanding K-12 educators who have demonstrated leadership ability in advancing student development and outcomes in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Tonya Price Mewborn, assistant principal of Hillside High School, has received the Jack McCall Award from the Leadership Program for Aspiring Principals (LPAP), a course of study offered by the Principals’ Executive Program (PEP).  The award honors hard work, commitment, contributions to others, high standards and life-long learning, and Mewborn was selected as the recipient by her classmates.
